Day 3 of 3
Breathe Again
Reflection
What if today were not about having strength, but about receiving new strength?
The Word
Isaiah wrote these words to the people of Israel at a moment of collective exhaustion. The exile was coming, and the tiredness was real. The message was not "cheer up." It was something deeper: the source of strength is not in you. It is in God.
"Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary; His understanding is beyond searching out."
"He gives power to the faint and increases the strength of the weak."
"Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall."
"But those who wait upon the LORD will renew their strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint."
Isaiah 40:28-31
Understanding
Notice the progression in verse 31: fly, run, walk. Isn't that the opposite of what we expect? Human logic would say: first you walk, then you run, then you fly. But God reverses the order. Because in real life, the hardest thing is not always flying high in a moment of inspiration. The hardest thing is to keep walking, one step at a time, when the excitement has worn off.
Over these three days, you stopped. You rested. Now it's not about going back to the same race as before. It's about breathing again with a different perspective: you don't have to produce your own strength. God renews the strength of those who wait on him.
Waiting is not passivity. Waiting is active trust. It's saying: "I don't know how to fix everything, but I know who I trust." And out of that trust comes a new breath. Not breath to run faster, but to walk steadily.
What to do today
Today, go out for a 10-minute walk. Not for exercise. To breathe. With each step, breathe deeply and repeat in your mind: "I renew my strength in you." Feel the air coming in and going out. You are alive. You are breathing. And God is with you.
Prayer
Father, I don't want to go back to running the same way I did before. I want to walk with you, at your pace, with your strength. Renew my breath. Not just in my body, but in my soul. Thank you for these three days. Thank you for reminding me that I can breathe again. Amen.
