Here are seven biblical passages related to the family for you to share with all your relatives. Through reading these passages, we can learn the role and importance of the family.
We were created to serve God as a family. The family is God's project and every single one is important to Him.

1. Go Forth and Multiply! (Genesis 1:26-28)

God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number” Genesis 1:28

"God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”
Genesis 1:28

The family is the result of God's mathematics: two come together and become one. Out of this union come children, grandchildren, and an even larger family! The family is the sign of God's favor on all of us. As written in Genesis, the family is something that pleases God's eyes: he saw that it was good.

The family is God's project. In this way, our descendants are passed down from generation to generation. Whether your family is large or small, simple or well-off, God has placed you in the right family! Value your family, invest in it.

2. A family that believes in God faces difficulties together. (2 Kings 4:1-7)

"3 Elisha said, “Go around and ask all your neighbors for empty jars. Don’t ask for just a few. 4 Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the jars, and as each is filled, put it to one side.”". (2 Kings 4:3-4)

In this passage, we can see an example of a family in the Bible facing adversity. A widow turned to the prophet Elisha with her problems: financial difficulties were knocking at her door. After the death of her husband, a disciple of the prophet, creditors threatened to take her children (2 Kings 4:1).

Elisha instructed the widow to collect jars from all over the neighborhood and then fill them with what little oil was left in the house. The woman obeyed the prophet and her sons helped her, collecting and filling all the jars. The oil only stopped pouring when there were no more vessels to fill (2 Kings 4:6).

A family that is founded on God's promises is not immune to hard times. The difference lies in how those challenges are faced. Even with the loss of her husband, this widow didn't give up and turned to the Lord's prophet. Her children also believed the prophet's word, obeying their mother's orders. With this miracle, they were able to pay off their debts and have a fresh start (2 Kings 4:7).

3. Children: an inheritance from God (Psalm 127:3-5)

"3 Children are a heritage from the Lord,
offspring a reward from him.
4 Like arrows in the hands of a warrior
are children born in one’s youth.
5 Blessed is the man
whose quiver is full of them.
They will not be put to shame
when they contend with their opponents in court."
Psalm 127:3-5

There is nothing more precious to parents than their children. Children are a blessing from God! The more children, the more moments of joy and prosperity. God knows how precious a child is. He gave us his only Son for our salvation.

In the passage above the psalmist compares children to arrows. The arrows are released, but the direction is the responsibility of the one who launches them. Parents should instruct children in the way of Truth, aiming at the target which is Christ! Once heading in the right direction, it will be difficult for them to wander off course (Proverbs 22:6).

4. Joshua, his family and Israel chose to serve God! (Joshua 24:1-28)

and my household, we will serve the Lord.Joshua 24:15

"But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”
Joshua 24:15

When Joshua renewed his covenant in Shechem, he made a very clear choice: he and his family would serve only God. At that time, the people of Israel were beginning to worship other gods, which displeased God. Joshua's example led the people back to the Lord. There is no happier family than one that serves God!

A family that serves Jesus and obeys him leads others to the path of Truth. Make this choice as a family: seek God. Exercise your leadership, be an example to your children, and place your family before God. It's not an easy task, but every effort is rewarded when we see our loved ones praising God.

5. We are part of God's family! (Mark 3:31-35)

33 “Who are my mother and my brothers?” he asked.

34 Then he looked at those seated in a circle around him and said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! 35 Whoever does God’s will is my brother and sister and mother.”

Mark 3:33-35

This passage shows us how much Jesus values those who follow his Word. In this passage, Jesus didn't want to belittle his family, but he wanted to teach us a great lesson: if God is our Father and if we are God's children, our true brothers and sisters are those who do the Father's will.

Even if we have no blood relatives, when we accept Christ, we become part of God's family. Whoever accepts Jesus Christ will never be alone. Even with relatives around, those who accept Christ have a big family and brothers and sisters all over the world!

6. Believe in the Lord Jesus and your house will be saved! (Acts 16:30-32)

"30 He then brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”

31 They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved — you and your household.” 32 Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all the others in his house."
Acts 16:30-32

The plan of Salvation includes your family! Through the testimony of Paul and Silas, the jailer had a great experience with God. A desperate man, who thought he had lost the people imprisoned in his custody, wanted to be saved. Paul not only taught him how he could be saved but prophesied that through him, his family would also be reached.

God doesn't just want to bless us, he also wants to reach our entire home. For God to act, we must open our home to God for him to reign. When we pray for our families and talk about Christ, we are allowing Him into our home. Your faith will lead many to accept Christ: start with your family!

7. Children and grandchildren: a blessing from God! (Proverbs 17:6)

“Children’s children are a crown to the aged, and parents are the pride of their children.". Proverbs 17:6

"Children’s children are a crown to the aged,
and parents are the pride of their children.".
Proverbs 17:6

Having a large family and seeing it grow is a gift from God! Abraham was blessed with a large family because he believed that his descendants would spread throughout the earth. Age brings us wisdom. Being able to guide children, grandchildren, and even great-grandchildren is an enormous blessing from God.

Old age is a privilege. God gives it to us every day of our lives. Grandparents are very important in a family structure. They must be a mature reference point, wisely advising their children and grandchildren, and always praying for their family. The good witness of grandparents and prayer lead the whole family to God.
