Materials needed: An hourglass; a set of at least 20 cards containing the topics to guess and the taboo words; paper and a pen or a whiteboard and chalk to keep score.

Instructions:

  1. Divide the group into two teams. Assign a number to each participant so that everyone knows when it is their turn.
  2. The cards contain a main name or topic, which the team must guess, and 3 taboo words that cannot be used when describing the name or topic. If a taboo word is used, the turn is lost and passes to the other team.
  3. Participants numbered 1 on each team begin the game. Both will look at the card. The #1 player from one team will describe the word so that their team can guess it, while the #1 player from the other team will watch to make sure none of the taboo words are used. When a topic is guessed, the player moves on to the next one, as long as time has not run out. Turns continue according to the assigned order so that everyone gets a chance to participate.
  4. Turn the hourglass over as soon as the person begins describing the word on their card. The turn ends when the sand stops falling.
  5. Prohibited: using the taboo words, making gestures or movements that hint at the word, making sounds related to the word (onomatopoeia), using the word in plural form, or saying “It sounds like...”
