Today's Word

Fix your eyes on Jesus

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
- Hebrews 12:1–2

Do you feel like your world is confusing and that you have no hope? Look to Jesus! In Him there is always hope, even in the midst of situations that seem impossible. He overcame temptation, sin, and even death. There is nothing He cannot transform with His power. Read the Bible, learn more about Jesus, and trust in Him. You will see how He will change your life.

With His help, you can break free from the power of sin and overcome the temptations that try to pull you away from His path. In the midst of your struggles, remember that Jesus is:

  • Your Savior: “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12)
  • The mighty God: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.” (John 1:1–3)
  • Always the same: “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8)
  • Your intercessor: “Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died more than that, who was raised to life is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.” (Romans 8:34)

Focus on Jesus, keep your eyes on Him, and enjoy His presence.

Yesterday's Word

Strangers and pilgrims on the earth

All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance, admitting that they were foreigners and strangers on earth.
- Hebrews 11:13

Hebrews chapter 11 is known as the chapter of the heroes of faith. There we find a summary of the story of great men and women who remained steadfast in faith despite all the obstacles life placed before them.

Verse 13 gives us a good key to understanding their perseverance. They knew they were passing through life, that their true citizenship was heavenly. They did not live focused on what was earthly and temporary, but sought to obey God in everything, even when doing so brought them trouble.

We were created for eternity with God. We are just passing through this earth; our true destiny is to live with God forever. Therefore, the difficulties of life lose their power over us: our gaze is fixed on the Lord and on the eternal victory He has already won for us.

Our identity is in God. The world may reject us, persecute us, or turn its back on us, but if we know who we are in Christ, we will remain firm and strong without giving up. Establish yourself today in the Lord, as a member of His family for all eternity.

Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household.
- Ephesians 2:19

Pray for the right things

When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.
- James 4:3

God does not always give us what we ask for. Why? Because many times we do not ask correctly. We think we know what is best, but God has other plans. Other times our motivation is wrong. Our focus is not on God. When we seek God’s will above all else and ask for the right things, God responds.

Do you want to pray correctly? Spend time with God and ask Him what He wants to do in your life, in your family, in the situations you are facing, and in the world in general. Learn to ask according to God’s will, and you will see how you will receive more answers to your prayers.

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.
- 1 John 5:14–15

When we set aside what our emotions desire and learn to listen to the voice of God, we begin to ask for what is on His heart. Focus on God, seek His face, listen to His loving whisper, and learn to pray according to the Father’s heart.

If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
- John 15:7
