Around the age of 20, Marcelo realized that God was setting him apart for full-time ministry. In July 1988, he received confirmation of this calling. In March 1989, he enrolled in the Gramado Theological Seminary (Janz Team Mission in Brazil), where he graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Theology, specializing in Historical-Systematic Theology and Counseling, in December 1993. Since July 2021, he has been a Master's student in Theology in the Specialized Course in Theological Studies (Vocational Master of Theological Studies) at the Baptist Theological Seminary (Queluz - Lisbon).

Ministerial Experience

On 20/02/1994, shortly after leaving the seminary, Marcelo took on the pastorate of the First Baptist Church in Gravataí (RS, Brazil), where he served as Senior Pastor until 31/08/2014. During these 20 years of ministry, he undertook various initiatives, including opening five congregations, founding a Baptist school for elementary and high school education, and creating the Beneficent Baptist Association Embrace (ABBA). Simultaneously, he served as a board member of the Janz Team (now TeachBeyond Brazil), a Christian education organization. He was the president of TeachBeyond Brazil from January/2012 to October/2014.

Ministry in Portugal

On 08/10/2014, Marcelo and his family were sent as missionaries to Braga, Portugal, by the First Baptist Church in Gravataí. On 25/07/2015, he took over the pastorate of the Central Baptist Church of Famalicão, and on 20/03/2016, that of the Central Baptist Church of Braga. He organized the March for Jesus in Braga in 2017 and 2019 and also established a new church in Braga (Community of Hope).

Move to Germany

After eight years in Portugal, Marcelo concluded his ministry there on 31/01/2023. Responding to God's call, he moved to Stuttgart, Germany, where he took over the pastorate of the Free Evangelical Church, known as Olga Gemeinde. The church, founded in 1919, is undergoing a revitalization process, a challenge Marcelo accepted to undertake. He and his family seek the prayers of all to be blessed and used by God in Germany.
